One Random Raincloud

One Random Raincloud

As I sit here on my sofa grading hundreds of student projects, I hear a light tap on the front door. I glance to the right and notice a few splotches of raindrops on the window. My home is flooded with sunlight. Curious, I turn toward the picture window. The bright sun is illuminating the beautiful red rocks.

Perplexed, I wonder if it’s the window washer making his quarterly stop. Though I recall he came just last week. My curiosity gets the best of me, and I meander from the sofa to the front door.

The rain is coming down a bit harder now, but only inside the courtyard. What is this? I step outside. The sky is clear except for one random raincloud hovering directly over my house.

My mind immediately goes there. Why? What does this mean? Is it just chance, or is there some quiet message meant for me in the middle of this hectic day?

I’ll be honest. This year has been filled with some serious surprises. Not all pleasant. But I’ve moved through them the way I always do, searching for that small sliver of goodness in every situation.

And still, the rain falls. Only in that one spot. I pause.

Is it a sign that life goes on, even when you don’t have the answers?

Is it a reminder that to the right, you’ll find gloom, and to the left, the light still shines?

Is it exhaustion? Joy? Wild, unexplainable happiness?

I wasn’t sure. I stood in silence. Then I looked at my phone.

4:03 p.m.
April 28.

The day. The very moment. The call that changed everything. The way I think, the way I breathe, the way I live.

It’s just one random raincloud.

And four years later, not only have I survived.

I’ve thrived.

- Love and joy always, Kristy
