Giving means more than what’s wrapped under the tree. This is a self care reminder for the givers who show up for everyone and sometimes forget themselves along the way.
Some people are wired to give.
You know who you are.
And I’m not going to lie.
This is who we are.
We thrive on this.
It’s in our DNA.
You’re the person everyone leans on.
The one who remembers the details.
The one who shows up, even when you are tired, stretched thin, or quietly holding your own worries.
During the holidays, that natural generosity goes into overdrive.
Giving means more than what’s wrapped under the tree.
It becomes time, energy, patience, listening, supporting, and holding space for other people while your own needs wait quietly in the background.
Givers come in all forms.
Moms making magic out of thin air.
Single parents doing the work of two.
Teachers who give all day and still think about their students long after the bell rings.
Counselors and health care workers who carry other people’s emotions as part of their everyday work.
Friends who are always the steady ones.
And sometimes, in the middle of all that giving, there is a small voice that sneaks in and asks, What about me?
A lot of givers ignore that voice.
Many feel guilty for even hearing it.
Please understand...
That voice does not mean you are selfish.
It is honest.
It does not mean you expect anything in return.
It means you're human.
It means your energy has limits and your heart needs care too.
Self care is imperative when you overflow with kindness.
It's what allows kindness to last without turning into burnout.
So this season, consider this a reminder.
It's okay to celebrate yourself.
Not in a loud way.
Not in a look at me way.
But in a quiet, reflective way that recognizes the goodness you bring into the world.
Here are a few things that help me reset when I feel stretched to thin.
First, stop. Just stop.
Even sixty seconds of stillness can provide more peace than you would expect. Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is pause.
Second, move your body.
When my head says no, a workout almost always changes my energy. I'm not a gym rat... even a short walk around the block makes a world of difference.
Third, take yourself out.
Go watch a movie alone. Sit in the dark. Let your mind rest. Laugh, cry, zone out, or just be.
Or wander through an art gallery. Take in the quiet. Observe true talent and beauty.
It is a little pocket of peace most givers do not realize they deserve.
To me, kindness is not about perfection or constant positivity. It is about showing up with heart and making sure you do not lose yourself in the process.
So if you are a giver reading this, consider this your permission slip.
Take a moment.
Celebrate yourself.
Refill your glass.
Giving means more than what’s wrapped under the tree.
And you matter too.
Have a peaceful holiday season. Take a moment to celebrate you!
